WCDS netters end regular-season play in dominating fashion

Wayne Country Day claimed two tie-breaker victories singles play and rolled past Greenfield, 9-0, in the regular-season finale for both teams Tuesday afternoon.
Third-seeded Hunter Hawkins turned back the Knights' McGuire Mets 6-0, 3-6, 1-0 (10-5). Teammate Lance Davis upended Trey Webb 7-6 (6), 6-4 at the No. 6 slot.
Top-seeded Sam Dively and second-seeded Preston Edwards each posted a straight-set shutout. Young Wang and Charlie Dees triumphed at Nos. 4 and 5 singles, respectively.
Dively-Edwards, Hawkins-Wang and Greg Langston-Nolan Davis completed the shutout in doubles.
Wayne Country Day is expected to earn an at-large bid to the N.C. Independent Schools Athletic Association 1-A state playoffs. The field will be announced later today.
