CALYPSO -- Thunder in the sky.
Lightning on the mound.
Pitchers Hailey Wood of Princeton and Rylee Pate of North Duplin battled it out on Thursday evening for 3 1/2 innings in a highly anticipated Carolina 1-A Conference rematch.
Wood threw six strikeouts, while Pate fired nine, leaving both the Bulldogs and the Rebels scoreless.
At the top of the fourth inning, the umpire called the game after rain and lightning increased.
Students, fans and athletes huddled in the dugout or waited in school for 20 minutes, but the field became unplayable after the breif storm.
Bulldogs athletic director Marty Gurganus and Rebels athletic director/head softball coach Ricky Edwards decided to resume the game at North Duplin tonight at 6 p.m.
