* Boys' tennis: Wayne Country Day 6, Christ Covenant 3 -- Wayne Country Day swept the doubles during a non-conference victory Wednesday afternoon. The tandems of Nolan Davis-Gray Langston, Cam Gerrard-Stanley Zhan and Dylan Brown-Connor Shaw each emerged victorious on their respective court. Brown-Shaw escaped 9-8 (5) against Sam Smitz-Aaron Carey at No. 3 doubles. Gerrard, Zhan and Brown each claimed a singles point. The Chargers (2-2 overall) travel to Rocky Mount Academy next Wednesday.
* Baseball: Charles B. Aycock 3, New Bern 1 -- Jordan Gay ignited a three-run, sixth-inning outburst with a two-RBI hit as the Golden Falcons picked up an Eastern Carolina 3-A/4-A Conference road win. Gay, Tyler Daniels, Zack Brewer, Carson Smitherman and Nick Aycock supplied one hit apiece offensively. Cody Whaley started on the mound and earned the win with a six-hit, six-inning performance. Gay collected the save in relief and extended his streak to 12 consecutive scoreless innings. Aycock plays host to J.H. Rose on Friday.
Corrections
In Wednesday's edition of the News-Argus, two players were incorrectly identified from the North Duplin-Princeton softball game played Tuesday evening.
The North Duplin pitcher is junior right-hander Rylee Pate, the reigning News-Argus All-Area pitcher-of-the-year. On the inside page is Emily Ricks, who belted an early-game home run.
We apologize for the errors.
