Cougars net non-conference tennis win

SEVEN SPRINGS -- Goldsboro High swept the singles and doubles courts during a 9-0, non-conference triumph over Spring Creek on a breezy Wednesday afternoon.
Chris (Xan) Pate, Caleb Whitted, Aaron Podbielski, Holden Jones, Garrett Boykin and Kyle Candy each posted a straight-set decision in singles play. Pate, the Cougars' No. 1 seed, did not lose a game. Candy, a freshman, dropped just one game at the No. 6 slot.
Pate-Jones, Whitted-Podbielski and Boykin-Candy combined to lose just two games on the three doubles courts.
Spring Creek (1-7 overall) returns action April 5 at Carolina 1-A Conference foe Rosewood. Goldsboro (2-4) opens Eastern Carolina 2-A Conference play at home today against Ayden-Grifton.
