Warriors' Smith, Nix combine for 1-hit shutout

Zack Smith and Collin Nix combined for a one-hitter on the mound during Eastern Wayne's 5-0, non-conference conquest of Greene Central on Thursday afternoon.
Smith yielded the Rams' one hit and posted seven strikeouts in a four-inning stint. Nix hurled three innings of five-strikeout relief as the Warriors improved to 4-1 overall this season.
Tanner Wells paced the Warriors' offense with two hits. Smith doubled and drove in a run. Ryan Warren (RBI), Brock Johnson (RBI) and Jacob Ginn each had one hit.
Nix supplied a two-RBI double.
Eastern Wayne opens its Eastern Carolina 3-A/4-A Conference season at home Tuesday against South Central.
