Rosewood senior Lexi Mercer sank her first shot -- a free throw -- five minutes into the opening quarter against Spring Creek on Wednesday evening.
Not long after, the Elon University signee, with her parents by her side, stood at midcourt as Mercer was recognized for surpassing the 2,000-point mark during her career in last week's East Coast Christmas Classic in Jacksonville.
"When you sit down and think logically about it, it's hard to score that many points and be that consistent throughout the year," third-year RHS head coach Rick Grantham said. "She gets beat up every night because she plays so hard and she will drive it to the goal. She's willing to do whatever it takes for us to have best opportunity be successful."
Mercer scored 25 points in the Eagles' 78-54 romp over the Gators in Carolina 1-A Conference play. Payton Lane scored 15 points, followed by Jala Holloman with 11.
Tayzlie Tripple scored seven.
Amber Buchan tallied 26 points for Spring Creek. Destiney Sutton had seven points.
