FAYETTEVILLE -- Wayne Country Day trailed by as many as 18 points and nearly drained the game-winning shot before time expired in a 67-65, non-conference loss to Northwood Temple on Friday evening.
Jamal Forde paced a balanced offensive attack with 18 points. DJ Waters chipped in 16 points, followed by Jamal King (11 points) and Justin Lofton-Russell (10 points). King pulled down eight rebounds.
Waters logged four steals and three assists.
"(A) slow start and poor free throw shooting seemed to be the main reason for the loss," said WCDS head coach David Flowers, who added that the teams combined for 52 fouls and six players fouled out.
"Neither team could get into a good rhythm. Overall, it was a very good effort and hopefully a learning experience for games to come."
The Chargers (4-2 overall) play host to Lawrence Academy on Monday.
