PIKEVILLE -- Charles B. Aycock has tinkered with its starting formation throughout the season, and gotten quality results on the soccer pitch.

The Golden Falcons finally discovered the right combination Thursday evening.

Ten different players got into the scoring act as C.B. Aycock celebrated senior night with a 7-0 decision over county archrival Eastern Wayne in the Eastern Carolina 3-A/4-A Conference regular-season finale for both teams at Hardy Talton Stadium.

The Golden Falcons clinched the league's No. 1 seed for the N.C. High School Athletic Association 3-A playoffs, which begin Nov. 4. The Association is expected to release the 32-team eastern draw Monday.

"I think we're playing the best we've played this year," CBA assistant coach Corey Worrell said. "We worked with different formations all year and I think we've found one. We're going to stick to it and see what it does.

"We have many, many options (and) sometimes we get lost in ourselves because of that."

Lost?

Not hardly.

Barely 90 seconds after kickoff, the Golden Falcons' Zach Zacharzuk ripped a shot inside the 18-yard box. The ball deflected off of an Eastern Wayne player and landed at Chris Grieve's boot.

Grieve, one of eight seniors recognized at halftime, pushed the ball toward the back post and a sliding Jose Gonzales finished off the play. Grieve ended the night with two assists.

"We wanted to get on the board quick so we could get this game under our belt, get some goals (on the board) and get some other guys in who haven't played too much this year because you never know what's going to happen," Worrell said.

Dallen Edwards assisted on a Juninho Sanchez goal in the 23rd minute, and scored in the 34th minute off of an assist from David McIver.

Aycock led 3-0 at halftime.

"I told them not to give up no matter what the score was today," first-year EW head coach Scott Summers said. "I knew Aycock was a good team this year and they've got talent all over (the field) ... can come at you at all angles.

"A tough team like this, it's hard to shut them down all the way. Today, we were trying to fight as hard as we could."

The Golden Falcons solidified the outcome with three goals in a 13 1/2-minute span. Oscar Carcamo cleaned up a shot inside the 6-yard box after Joey Hampton's attempt deflected off the keeper's out-stretched gloves.

Sean Doulin collected back-to-back goals on assists from Grieve and Leo Carcamo. Lucio Estrada came off the bench to close out the scoring off of an assist from Leo Carcamo.

Eastern Wayne (2-14-0, 2-10-0) played the final 20 minutes without co-captain Christian Anderson, who aggravated an ankle injury when he stepped on an opponent's foot near midfield. The Warriors couldn't regain their offensive shape and stayed in defensive mode the rest of the game as the Golden Falcons finished unbeaten (8-0-2) against county opposition for the first time since 2009.

Seniors Grieve, Edwards, keeper Kosuke "Matt" Maruyama, Hunter Williams, Reece Middlekauff, Gonzales, Sanchez and Jacob Norris played the final regular-season home game of their respective careers.

Maruyama and Skylar Landers combined for one save and the Golden Falcons' eighth shutout of the season.
