Ruben Quiroz converted the game-winning goal in a sudden-death penalty kick shootout, lifting Goldsboro past Greene Central, 1-0, on a wet Tuesday evening at Cougar Stadium.

The victory gave Goldsboro (11-9-0) a share of the Eastern Carolina 2-A Conference regular-season title along with North Lenoir, South Lenoir and Greene Central. Each team logged a 7-3 worksheet in league play.

After 100 minutes of scoreless play, the teams entered the PK phase of the game. Goldsboro's Mickey Eovine, Aaron Seate, Jacob Seate and Jon Stevens each found the back of the net.

The Rams also connected on four of five PK tries.

Quiroz stepped to the dot, ripped a goal-scoring shot and the Cougars waited. When GC missed its attempt, Goldsboro capped its senior celebration with the program's first regular-season league championship in at least three-plus decades.

Goldsboro goalie Chandler Patrick recorded 13 saves between the pipes.

Cougars athletic director Dwight Sutton said this morning ADs from the schools involved in the four-way tie will meet to draw numbers from a hat to determine the playoff seeding.
