WILSON -- Charles B. Aycock's Abby Sauls shot an 18-hole round of 90 during the N.C. High School Athletic Association Class 3-A eastern regional Monday, and earned a berth in next week's two-day state championship.
Play was delayed for 45 minutes due to dew-covered grass from an overnight frost. Sauls shot a triple-bogey on the opening hole, but recorded an eagle on the second half which got her back in the groove on the Wedgewood Golf Course links.
Teammate Leah Campbell, daughter of Rosewood head golf coach Shay Campbell, just missed the cut with a 107.
"I'm proud of both of them," CBA head coach Roger Rhodes said. "We're going to take Leah with us so she can experience being at states."
Fayetteville Terry Sanford, led by regional runner-up Marisa Kawabe, earned the team title with a nine-stroke triumph over Lee County. Kawabe shot a 3-over-par 74.
Defending state champ Siranon Shoomee of Lee County retained her regional title with a 1-under 71.
