GREENVILLE -- Eastern Wayne's Elizabeth Sutton pulled off a stunning straight-set victory over J.H. Rose on Monday afternoon, but the Rampants escaped 5-4 in their Eastern Carolina 3-A/4-A Conference battle.
Sutton defeated Reed 7-5, 6-1.
"Elizabeth fought and scrapped for every point ... a gutty performance as she improved to 12-1 in singles play this year," EW head coach Craig Hassell said.
The Warriors also received singles points from Morgan Agner and Samantha Roux, who each emerged victorious in straight-set fashion. Agner-Emily Uzzell prevailed 9-8 at No. 2 doubles.
Eastern Wayne (5-7 overall, 5-6 ECC) returns to action Thursday for the season-ending ECC 3-A tournament at Aycock. Play begins at 2 p.m. on the Luke Vail Tennis Courts.
