GOLF -- Aycock wins meet, Burton earns medalist honorss

C.B. Aycock placed first in a six-team, non-conference match contested at Lane Tree Golf Club on Thursday afternoon.

The Golden Falcons posted a four-player total of 153 -- seven strokes lower than runner-up Rosewood. North Johnston ended up third at 161, followed by Goldsboro (179), Wayne Christian (182) and Princeton (188).

Rosewood senior Lindsey Burton claimed medalist honors with a 43 less than a week after winning the Ladies Club championship on the same course with a two-day score of 154.

Aycock's Leah Campbell placed second individually with a 50, followed by teammates Abby Sauls (51) and Anna Williams (52). Savannah Strickland (61) and Samantha Castorena (63) also represented the Golden Falcons.

Shamayah Revis complimented Burton's effort with a 55. Sara Bowling shot a 62.

Riley Hales paced Goldsboro with a 58. Tracey Smith and Ashley Smith shot 60 and 61, respectively. Scarlett Casey and Helen Keck carded identical nine-hole rounds of 63.

Grace Buddin led Wayne Christian with a 58. Brianna Verme shot a 61. Kelsey Sanders, Cassidy Davis and Laura Kim each posted a nine-hole score of 63.

Adrianna Smith recorded Princeton's lowest score with a 62. Teammates Anna Lee and Kaitlyn Johnson each fired a 63.

A total of 28 players competed on the day.

"Girls' golf in Wayne County and surrounding areas is gaining popularity among many of our female athletes," RHS head coach Shay Campbell said. "We are hoping to continue to grow the sport in our area as this is a great opportunity for young ladies to learn something new and have a sport they can continue to play for years to come."
