ROCKY POINT -- Pender's defense batted away a two-point conversion pass in overtime and turned back North Duplin, 20-19, on a stormy Friday night.
The Rebels forced the extra period on Melik Williams' 48-yard fumble return with 7:08 remaining in regulation. The Patriots blocked the PAT and had a chance to win late, but North Duplin's defense held firm in the red zone.
Despite committing costly penalties in the first OT session, Pender managed to punch the ball into the end zone. Emiliano Mora answered with a 1-yard dive for the Rebels. JP Payton's two-point pass floated toward Luke Britt, but the Patriots' defense knocked it away to salvage the win.
Terrion Addison put the Rebels on the board with a 1-yard run past the midway point of the second quarter.
Williams paced North Duplin's ground attack with 71 yards on 15 carries. Mora contributed 47 yards on 10 carries.
The Rebels (1-3 overall) return to action at home Sept. 25 against Lejeune.
