PREPS DIGEST: JV, middle schools

JV

* Volleyball: D.H. Conley d. C.B. Aycock 25-11, 25-15 -- Taliyah Green had four kills for the Golden Falcons. Taylor Gay and Daelyn Brock each had nine digs defensively.

* Boys' soccer: Wayne Country Day 3, Ridgecroft 0 -- Neyamiah Shaw scored two goals and delivered an assist on Frank Best's goal in the Chargers' road win Thursday afternoon. WCDS (6-0-0 overall) travels to Wilmington Christian on Monday.

* Volleyball: Hobbton d. North Duplin 23-25, 25-8, 25-21 -- North Duplin dropped to 2-5 overall and 0-3 against Carolina 1-A opposition this season.

* Volleyball: Beddingfield d. Goldsboro 25-22, 25-16 -- McKayla Roberts served five aces for Goldsboro. The Cougars return home next Wednesday to play Charles B. Aycock.

* Volleyball: J.H. Rose d. Southern Wayne 25-22, 25-10 -- Saints head coach Sarah Robertson said her squad showed "great fight in the first set with some lovely hustle plays, just not enough fight for the second set." Robertson cited the play of Ana McNair, who has improved her skills and might become the team's "go-to" player as the season progresses.

Middle schools

* Volleyball: Norwayne d. Greenwood 25-8, 25-8, 25-20 -- The Cobras scored 17 points with Lydia Butler on serve. Butler also recorded two aces. Norwayne (2-0 overall) plays host to Spring Creek on Monday.

* Football: Norwayne 38, Mount Olive 24 -- Blake Dilda rushed for a touchdown and passed for another score in the Cobras' season-opening win. Alijuan Moore had a TD reception, while Xavier Eutsey and Seth Shepard each rushed for a touchdown. Shephard, Omar Tucker and Tyler Hughes emerged as the defensive leaders. Norwayne (1-0 overall) visits Grantham next Thursday.

* Football: Grantham 42, Greenwood 20 -- Mark Graham rambled for four touchdowns in the Bulldogs' season-opening victory. Xavious Speight supplied two touchdowns. Demetric Wright added a TD and two-point conversion.

* Volleyball: Wayne School of Engineering d. Dillard 25-6, 25-9, 25-18 -- Garyn Taylor, Abby Allen and Taylor Lane helped lead WSE to its first win of the season on Thursday. The Titans (1-1 overall) face Brogden next Tuesday.
