MOUNT OLIVE -- Three University of Mount Olive student-athletes -- Edgar Bub, Francesca Ceppi and Beth Overman -- are the recipients of the Conference Carolinas Scholar Athlete-of-the-Year in their respective sport.

Named UMO's male scholar athlete-of-the-year for the second consecutive year, Bub became the Trojans' first-ever, two-time conference scholar athlete-of-the-year in any sport. The Germany native graduated with a 3.93 grade-point average (GPA), majoring in business management and human resource management.

Bub is a four-time all-Conference Carolinas first-team selection and was named to the 2015 Capital One-CoSIDA Academic All-District 3 team. He also helped lead UMO to the Conference Carolinas tournament championship and an appearance in the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional.

Ceppi, who hails from Caracas, Venezuela, continued to add to her impressive list of conference awards. She earned the prestigious 2014-15 Conference Carolinas Murphy Osborne Award -- the top individual award presented to an athlete within the league. Ceppi posted a 3.84 GPA with a major in psychology.

She represented UMO and Conference Carolinas on the NCAA National Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. On the tennis court, Ceppi became a four-time all-Conference Carolinas selection and garnered first-team honors in 2015.

A senior first baseman from Elizabeth City, Overman had a 3.61 GPA while majoring in recreation and leisure services. She is a two-time Conference Carolinas Scholar Athlete and a three-time all-Conference Carolinas pick -- including first-team honors in 2015 -- on the softball diamond.

Overman helped lead the Trojans to back-to-back conference championships and NCAA Division II Southeast Regional appearances during her sophomore and junior seasons.

Overall, UMO finished with four scholar athlete-of-the-year winners during the 2014-15 calendar year. Aki Kitigawa was selected the 2014 Conference Carolinas men's cross country scholar athlete-of-the-year.

Juniors and seniors with a minimum 3.30 GPA and at least one full year (two semesters) in residence are eligible for scholar athlete recognition.
