Pate, Santos combine for two-hitter inside pitcher's circle

CALYPSO -- North Duplin pitchers Rylee Pate and Alyssa Santos combined for a two-hit, mercy-rule shutout over county rival Wallace-Rose Hill.
Pate permitted one hit and retired six Bulldogs on strikeouts in three innings of work inside the circle. Santos gave up a hit and logged three strikeouts. The duo combined to walk just one batter.
Santos emerged as the offensive leader with four hits, including two doubles and a home run. She finished the day with a career-high seven RBI. Pate added three hits.
Shaily McCarty, Mary Barwick and Haley Thurston each had two hits.
The Rebels improved to 6-0-1 this season.
