Barton women complete regular-season sweep of UMO

WILSON -- Anamaria Zjacic and Ty Wallace notched 12 points apiece as the University of Mount Olive dropped a 70-56 decision to Conference Carolinas archrival Barton inside Wilson Gymnasium on Tuesday evening.
It was the regular-season finale for both teams.
Wallace fell one rebound shy of a double-double, while Arieal Johnson narrowly missed a double-double with nine points and 13 rebounds. The Havelock native also blocked five shots.
Zjacic collected eight rebounds and was one of three players to record two steals along with Tommarah Harris and Rachel Fehl. Martha Mastin contributed six points, including four free throws, in a reserve role.
Barton, which swept the regular-season series, built an 18-4 advantage barely eight minutes into the opening half. UMO closed to within 35-29 at halftime, but couldn't get any closer.
The Bulldogs started the second half with an 8-0 run.
Mount Olive committed 25 turnovers, which led to 24 BC points. The Trojans won the rebounding battle, 47-41, and held a 22-20 edge in the paint.
The Trojans (12-16 overall, 10-12 CC) return to action Saturday at King (Tenn.) in opening-round play of the 2015 Conference Carolinas tournament. Tip-off is 2 p.m. in Bristol, Tenn.
