Kinston drained the first field goal.
Eastern Wayne answered in dominating fashion.
The Warriors seized command with a 10-0 run and never relinquished their advantage in a 69-41, non-conference triumph over Kinston on Tuesday evening. It was the Vikings' season opener.
Down 2-0, Treycie Ford and Jasmine Covington provided offensive sparks as the Warriors built a 13-4 advantage after one quarter. Eastern Wayne relied on its pressure defense to create turnovers, which at times, led to transition buckets or trips to the free throw line.
Eastern Wayne picked Kinston for 19 steals and coaxed the Vikings into 35 turnovers overall.
Covington led all scorers with 16 points. Naheria Hamilton provided six points, nine rebounds and six blocked shots. Tianna Christopher chipped in eight points.
Takerian Harper tallied 12 points for Kinston.
Eastern Wayne (3-0 overall) entertains Goldsboro on Thursday.
