KINSTON -- After letting an eight-point halftime lead turn into a seven-point deficit toward the end of the third quarter, Wayne Country Day turned up the defensive pressure during the final eight minutes to beat Parrott Academy, 69-65, on Tuesday evening.
Joel Davis' slam dunk to end the third quarter put the Chargers up by one point. Davis finished with 15 points and seven rebounds.
Jamal Forde led WCDS with 19 points and nine steals. Shahim Muhammed scored 15 points.
The Chargers shot 16 of 31 from the free throw line, which allowed Parrott to hang around.
WCDS (3-2 overall) visits Kestrel Heights next Tuesday.
