James Kenan wins 7th straight playoff game

WARSAW -- Defending state champion James Kenan piled up 319 yards rushing and cruised past Martin Riverside, 55-19, in second-round action of the N.C. High School Athletic Association Class 1-AA football playoffs Friday evening.
The second-seeded Tigers (11-1 overall) entertain perennial powerhouse Tarboro next Friday. Kickoff is 7:30 p.m. at Bill Taylor Field.
Senior Al Owens led Kenan's rushing attack with 161 yards and two touchdowns on 12 carries. Backfield mate JaQuan Williams provided three TDs and 76 yards on 11 totes.
Quarterback Ken Avent III accounted for 75 yards of total offense, including a rushing TD and a 1-yard scoring strike to Williams with three seconds left before halftime.
Donte Mason emerged as the defensive leader with nine stops. Nick King, Khalil Savage, Quantavious Collins, Jalahne Stroud, Juan Hooper and Williams had four tackles apiece.
Kenan has won seven straight playoff games.
