WCDS boys finish runner-up in Spartan Classic

BURLINGTON -- No. 3-ranked Burlington School capitalized on an intential foul in the final 55 seconds and defeated Wayne Country Day, 50-39, in the Spartan Classic Championship game.
Ivy League recruit Joel Davis paced the Chargers' offense with 13 points. Jamal Forde provided 12 points and six rebounds. Victor Miller supplied nine points, five rebounds and three assists.
WCDS escaped Neuse Christian, 74-73, on Davis' game-winning shot with 14 seconds remaining on day one of the Classic. Forde came up with a huge defensive stop on Neuse's final offensive possession of the game.
Davis emerged as the Chargers' top scorer with 26 points, while Shahim Muhammed just missed a double-double with 14 points and nine rebounds. Miller and DJ Waters collected 12 and 10 points, respectively.
Davis and Forde earned all-tournament recognition.
The Chargers (1-1 overall) play host to Oakwood on Tuesday.
