McClain just misses double-double vs. Statesville

STATESVILLE -- Ty McClain just missed recording a triple-double as Wayne Christian cobbled out a 69-57 victory over Statesville Christian in day two of the Statesville Christian East-West Invitational.
McClain scored 33 points, pulled down 11 rebounds and dished out seven assists as the Eagles improved to 2-2 overall this season. Tyler Weeks contributed 15 points, including 12 from 3-point range.
Blake Floars added 10 points.
Tied at 50-50, Wayne Christian sealed the outcome with a 19-7 run over the final 5 1/2 minutes of the game.
The Eagles opened the Invitational with a 76-50 loss to Hickory Christian. McClain recorded 23 points, five rebounds and four assists.
Floars contributed nine points. Austin Howell chipped in eight points and two steals. Tanner Rose logged seven points and four rebounds.
Weeks pulled down six boards.
Wayne Christian (2-2 overall) opens its Carolina Christian 1-A Conference season at home Tuesday against Community Christian. Tip-off is 7 p.m. at Clifford Gymnatorium.
