* Girls' basketball: Wayne Country Day 49, Sallie B. Howard 4 -- Janae Jones outscored Sallie B. Howard on her own by dropping 14 points in Wayne Country Day's 49-4 romp on Thursday. Lexi Jeffreys added 12 points and Langley Barnes chipped in eight. The Chargers (1-0 overall) travel to Rocky Mount on Monday for a 5 p.m. tipoff.

Middle schools

* Boys' basketball: Sallie B. Howard 66, Wayne Country Day 23 -- David Gurley led the Chargers with seven points. Nehemiya Shaw and Sam Dively each added five points for WCDS, who dropped to 0-1 with the loss. They will travel to Rocky Mount on Monday.

* Girls' basketball: Wayne Christian 29, Faith Christian-Rocky Mount 12 -- Allison Whitfield and Madison Wells paced the Eagles' offense with 12 and seven points, respectively. Wayne Christian (2-0 overall) faces Greenfield on Monday.
