CALYPSO -- Gary Williams turned in a career-best performance and propelled Spring Creek into the playoffs with a resounding 47-28 triumph over Carolina 1-A Conference foe North Duplin on Friday evening.
Williams rushed for 283 yards and four touchdowns for the Gators, who clinched their second straight berth in the N.C. High School Athletic Association 1-A playoffs. It was the top performance by an SC running back this season.
"I'm really glad for Gary," SC head coach Aaron Sanders said. "That's a heck of a night."
The Gators compiled a season-best 456 yards of total offense. Tre Hammonds provided 95 yards and a touchdown on seven rushes, and booted three extra points. Quarterback Logan Miller accounted for 78 yards -- 63 rushing and 15 passing. He completed two passes to Jordan Hicks.
"We had talked to the boys about the game all week," Sanders said. "It was a chippy game with lot of personal fouls called here and there. I was extremely proud of the boys. They came out and had a good night."
Senior defensive end DaShawn Braswell paced the Gators' defense with 10 stops and a blocked punt.
"He played his best game of the season by far," Sanders said.
Brion Kornegay emerged as the Rebels' top rusher with 149 yards and one touchdown on 16 carries. The senior transfer from Southern Wayne hauled in TD passes of 6 and 4 yards from Emiliano Mora.
Mora ended the night 5 of 9 passing for 18 yards.
Kaleb Brock supplied 104 yards on 19 rushes.
