Defensive-minded Wayne Country Day battled No. 1-ranked Grace Christian of Sanford to a 0-0 draw on a blustery, cloudy Friday afternoon.
The Chargers (5-3-3 overall) handed the once-beaten Crusaders (13-3-1) their first shutout of the year. Overall, WCDS posted its eighth clean sheet of the season due to the play of senior keeper Bailee Creger and a backline that defended well all afternoon.
"The girls played fantastic tonight," WCDS head coach Steve Ellis said. "I switched a few things around tactically to counter the opponent's attacking force, and the girls stuck to the plan. Every single player gave everything they had all game.
"It was our best team performance of the year."
Maggie O'Donnell almost netted the game's lone goal when, surrounded by three players, had a shot to graze off the fingertips of Grace Christian's keeper.
Wayne Country Day is the guest of Pope John Paul on Tuesday.
