Trojan women advance in CC lacrosse tournament

MOUNT OLIVE -- The University of Mount Olive will make its first-ever appearance in the Conference Carolinas women's lacrosse tournament semifinals after a 15-8 victory over sixth-seeded Converse (S.C.) on Tuesday afternoon.
Candace Corkin and Michelle Fortier combined to score the first seven goals for the third-seeded Trojans, who oppose regular-season runner-up Pfeiffer University on Friday. Top-seeded Limestone (S.C.) takes on fourth-seeded Belmont Abbey in the other semifinal.
Fortier concluded the day with five goals and Corkin had four.
Mount Olive (12-5 overall) turned a one-goal advantage into a 6-2 cushion during a 1-minute, 48-second span in the opening half. Fortier scored 27 seconds after a Converse goal, while Corkin added two goals within 41 seconds apart of each other.
The Trojans led 10-2 at halftime.
UMO starting goalkeeper Hannah Knight recorded five saves, while Sarah Snell tallied two saves in the final six-plus minutes.
