Roger Rhodes stepped underneath the main tent, put on his glasses and inspected the results posted from the field events.

He silently calculated the points in his head and headed back to the track.

More than three hours later, Rhodes got the outcome he expected -- Charles B. Aycock's girls claimed their third consecutive Wayne County Track and Field Championship title Monday afternoon.

"It was a good day for CBA," said Rhodes, whose team pulled out a 181-164.5 decision over Rosewood, which had five individual champs and won the 3,200 relay.

Southern Wayne edged Eastern Wayne 89-88.5 for third place. Goldsboro (59.5 points), Spring Creek (36.5) and Wayne Christian (2) rounded out the seven-team field.

Golden Falcons' sophomore Courtney Warner successfully defended her county titles in the 100- and 200-meter dashes. She broke the school record in the 100 for the second time in a seven-day period with a mark of 11.9 seconds.

Warner took the 200 in 25.6.

"I think Courtney has decided she's going to let track pay for her college education," Rhodes said. "God blessed her with some speed and she's improved on it simply by wanting to do (better), and she's not going to take 'no' for an answer."

Taylor Daniels bested the competition in the 400, while teammate Delyn Coley emerged as the top discus thrower with a mark of 78 feet, 1 inch.

Aycock's foursome of Daniels, Precious Reid, Jani Smith and Kristen Denning seized the 800 relay in 1:52. Rhodes said Mackenzie Stewart logged personal-best times in the 1,600 and 3,200 runs.

One week ago, Rosewood's Krystal Yelverton and teammate Alysse Atwell staged a hurdles battle during the season-ending Carolina 1-A Conference championship meet. They settled for a split.

Nothing changed this time.

Yelverton won the 110 and Atwell took the 300.

"It's my second year of running hurdles, so I don't have a lot of experience," Yelverton said. "Running against Alysse makes me better. I think I could have done better than I did, but I tried and did my best, so that's all that matters."

Brynna Lee became the first-ever, four-time pole vault champion in county history and also won the 800 run. Sophomore Lexi Mercer repeated as the county high jump champ, while Ashley Duran successfully defended her 3,200 crown.

Rosewood won the 3,200 relay.

Spring Creek teammates Rachel McCollum and Cassidy Goff picked up county titles in the shot put and triple jump, respectively. Eastern Wayne's Natasha Johnson claimed the long jump and Goldsboro's Nicole Mehlhaff captured the 1,600 race.

Southern Wayne took the 400 and 1,600 relays.
