MOUNT OLIVE -- Kalie Smith's lead-off double and two-RBI single in a fourth-inning uprising propelled the University of Mount Olive past No. 24-ranked Wingate, 8-2, in game two of their softball doubleheader on Thursday afternoon.
Madison Johnston threw a complete-game five-hitter.
Wingate took the opener, 6-3.
In the nightcap, Katie Moore's two-RBI double pushed the Trojans in front 2-1 after three innings. Smith started the UMO fourth with a double, took third on a wild pitch and scored on Savannah Becker's RBI groundout.
Two walks and Nicole Taliercio's single loaded the bases. Beth Overman plated one run with a base knock and a fielding error boosted UMO's advantage to 5-1. Freshman Ashleigh Mason connected on a pinch-hit, RBI single.
One out later, Smith made her second plate appearance and drilled a two-RBI single to right field, which made it 8-1.
Johnston (3-1) retired the side in the sixth and seventh innings, and logged her third complete game of the season.
Wingate (9-1 overall) seized a 6-0 lead through three innings in the opener. Starting pitcher Stacey Houser kept UMO scoreless through six innings.
The Trojans posted three seventh-inning runs.
Mount Olive (4-6) returns to action this weekend at the Shaw Softball Challenge in Raleigh. Saturday's schedule includes contests against West Chester (Pa.) University, No. 20-ranked California (Pa.) University and Le Moyne (N.Y.).
The Trojans face Shippensburg (Pa.) University and USC Aiken on Sunday.
