MOUNT OLIVE -- The University of Mount Olive men's and women's tennis teams earned a non-conference sweep over in-state foe Chowan University at the Walker Tennis Center on Thursday afternoon.
Henric Falkenberg, Stan Roffe and Lautaro Vazquez each dropped only one game as the Trojan men, ranked No. 7 in the Southeast Region, rolled to an 8-1 decision. UMO is unbeaten against non-Division I teams this season.
Mount Olive (6-1 overall) swept the doubles and clinch the overall outcome after singles victories by Matt Finnerty and Falkenberg.
Alejandra Hernandez and Samara Paldinho each rallied from a one-set deficit to post singles wins during the Trojan women's 6-3 triumph. UMO won the final four singles matches.
Mount Olive (5-1) captured two of the three doubles points, but Chowan grabbed a 3-2 overall lead after winning the Nos. 1 and 3 singles matches.
Hernandez and Paldinho staged their respective rallies and received help from Maite Belloso and Paulina Delgado. The duo combined for a pair of straight-set singles wins to help seal the overall outcome.
The Trojans play host to Erskine and King this weekend.
