Light snowfall blanketed much of Wayne County and eastern North Carolina late Tuesday evening, which prompted Wayne County Public Schools officials to cancel all after-school activities earlier in the day.

Weather permitting, several events are on tap for today:

-- Charles B. Aycock senior Devin Hall and Eastern Wayne's Willie Smith will compete for the Eastern Carolina 3-A/4-A Conference 1-meter diving championship this afternoon at the Goldsboro Family Y. Warm-ups begin at 2:30, with the finals slated for 3 o'clock.

Hall is a former two-time state 3-A champion.

-- Archrivals Rosewood and Princeton are set for action on the hardwood, which includes a pivotal girls' contest on the Carolina 1-A Conference scene. The Eagles, ranked No. 7 in the latest NCPreps.com poll, are unbeaten in five league outings this season. The Bulldogs have one loss in conference play.

RHS athletics director Robert Britt said Tuesday's road game at Neuse Charter will be made up Thursday.

-- Another rivalry takes place in New Hope -- Aycock wrestling at Eastern Wayne. The winner earns the ECC's lone 3-A berth to the N.C. High School Athletic Association dual-team playoffs.

The Golden Falcons have won all 13 regular-season conference meetings against the Warriors.

-- In Dudley, county foes Eastern Wayne and Southern Wayne battle as first-half play winds down in ECC basketball play. The Warriors' varsity boys team defeated the Saints in the third-place game during the inaugural Southern Bank/Mount Olive Pickle Winter Classic in late December.

-- Aycock plays host to former ECC foe South Johnston in basketball. Action begins at 4 p.m. with a junior varsity girls' game.

-- Goldsboro High athletics director Ray Lippert said this morning that Tuesday's triple-header with Ayden-Grifton has not been rescheduled.
