A big third quarter propelled Rosewood to a 67-45 win over Carolina 1-A Conference rival Spring Creek on Friday night.

Both teams had trouble making shots in the first half. Spring Creek stayed within striking distance, 27-20 at halftime.

Rosewood (12-1 overall, 5-0 CC) picked up the tempo and controlled the third quarter. The Eagles' lead grew to 20 points thanks to improved transition offense.

"I thought the first half we really played at a pace that didn't suit us," Rosewood head coach Rick Grantham said. "I'm an offensive-minded coach and I feel like the more shots we get the better our chances are of scoring.

"Our defense led to some easy baskets and really got us going in the second half."

Lexi Mercer paced the Eagles with 31 points and 11 rebounds. Krystal Yelverton added 14 points and Alicia Burns finished with 10.

Amber Buchan led the Gators with 17 points. Destiny Sutton tallied 12 points.

Spring Creek (3-9, 2-3) will host James Kenan on Wednesday. Rosewood will enjoy a week off before taking on Princeton on Jan. 17.
