Wayne Country Day offense explodes in 2nd half

CREEDMOOR -- Wayne Country Day erupted for 62 second-half points and rolled past Dominion (Va.) High School, 95-68, on day three of the South Granville Holiday Invitational.
Victor Miller pumped in a career-high 23 points for the Chargers, who concluded 2013 with a 13-5 worksheet. All-tournament selection Lee Atkinson knocked down a season-high 28 points and dished out seven assists.
Joel Davis logged a double-double -- 15 points, 10 rebounds. Marlon Coley pulled down seven rebounds.
"(Our) defensive intensity was key in wearing their guards down and forcing many (second-half) turnovers," said first-year WCDS head coach David Flowers, whose team trailed 41-33 at halftime.
Shahim Muhammed tallied a career-high 20 points and grabbed six rebounds in Wayne Country Day's semifinal-round, 93-80 loss to Village Christian on Friday. Atkinson contributed 19 points and six assists.
Davis and Jamal Forde supplied 15 and 10 points, respectively. Coley snared nine rebounds.
The Chargers entertain Arendell-Parrott Academy on Jan. 3 in the inaugural WCDS New Year's Invitational. Burlington School and Neuse Christian round out the four-team field.
