La GRANGE -- North Lenoir resuscitated its wrestling program and Rosewood emerged victorious with a pair of non-conference victories inside Wooten Gym on Tuesday evening.
"(The defeats) were very one-sided, but there were flashes of great things to come for the fledgling program," NL head coach Patrick Cline said. "The young grapplers spread their collective wings, took to the air for the first time in 18 years and managed to flap a few times as they covered new ground."
The Hawks fell 63-18 to Rosewood and 60-16 to Southern Nash.
Cline noted that JV grapplers Channing Rouse (152 pounds) and Mason Wiggins (195) posted two victories apiece. Heavyweight Keywan Morgan picked up one victory.
The Eagles (6-0 overall) rolled past the Firebirds, 60-24.
"This group of wrestlers has been the most enthusiastic and dedicated group we have had in a long time," RHS head coach Bill Edmundson said. "The coaching staff expected the Southern Nash match to be much closer and we had some really good matchups with them. We were very fortunate in a couple of matches and were able to get early pins.
"It's great to have North Lenoir back in the sport and he has an outstanding group of young men in their program."
