North Lenoir controlled the pace of play from the opening whistle and earned a 7-1 win over Eastern Carolina 2-A Conference rival Goldsboro on Monday night.

The Hawks scored three goals in the first 12 minutes of play and never allowed the Cougars to get within striking distance.

"For whatever reason, we came out really flat tonight," Goldsboro head coach Terry Walls said. "We have run into that a few times so far this season. We play well for a game or two and then we have one like tonight."

North Lenoir got on the board just 42s second into the first half when Andrew Riley fired a shot that deflected off the keeper's finger tips and into the net. The Hawks made the score 2-0 in the seventh minute when Nicholas Kennedy collected a pass from Michael Bednarz and fired it home.

Bednarz added a goal in the 12th minute when he converted a corner kick by Andy Garcia.

Goldsboro got on the scoreboard in the 25th minute. Damon Pate collected a long pass from Aaron Seate and raced 30 yards down field before firing a shot into the top right corner of the net.

North Lenoir (6-7-2 overall, 6-3-0 ECC) iced the game in the 32nd minute when Garcia scored off a pass from Bednarz to make the game 4-1.

"We made a play to get back in the game at 3-1, but (North Lenoir) answered pretty quickly," Walls said. "They have a good team and tonight they executed on the offensive end better than we did."

Bednarz, Garcia and Garrett Letchworth each added a goal in the second half to round out the 7-1 final.

North Lenoir plays host to Ayden-Grifton on Wednesday, while Goldsboro (2-15-1, 0-7-1) entertains Greene Central.
