Preps digest: JV, middle school news

JV sports
* Boys' basketball: Goldsboro 80, Spring Creek 52 -- D'onta Russell led the Cougars with 16 points. Delmonte Wells supplied 13 points. Nashir Bowden, Eric Bufkin and Josh Wootson each had 10 points.
* Girls' basketball: Eastern Wayne 35, Triton 20 -- Curyna Chase finished with eight points for the Warriors. Kearah Rouse provided seven points.
Middle schools
* Boys' basketball: Wayne Country Day 37, Epiphany 34 -- Hayes Gerrard drained a 3-pointer with 14 seconds left to give the Chargers the win. John Strickland led Wayne Country Day with 11 points and Noah Adkins had eight. The Chargers improved to 12-5 and face Freedom Christian a 12:30 p.m. on Saturday at Greenfield for the Coastal Plains Independent 1-A Conference tournament championship.
