SALISBURY -- Beth Overman put Mount Olive ahead to stay with a fourth-inning grand slam and freshman Madison Johnston tossed six scoreless innings in relief as the Trojans rallied for a 6-3 win over Catawba in game two of their non-conference softball doubleheader Sunday afternoon.
Johnston survived a bases-loaded jam in the third and got inning-ending double plays in the fifth and sixth innings.
The win gave Mount Olive a split after falling 4-0 in the opener. Catawba pitcher Carley Tysinger tossed a one-hitter for the Indians.
The Trojans (5-3 overall) continue their season-opening, 15-game road swing Friday at the Shaw Softball Challenge. MOC will play five contests during the three-day affair.
