Goldsboro's Darden finishes state runner-up

Goldsboro's Zach Darden emerged the Classes 1-A/2-A state runner-up during the men's 200-yard individual medley contested at the N.C. High School Athletic Association state swimming championship meet.
Darden touched the wall in 1 minute, 59.66 seconds.
Teammate Logan Cole secured the bronze medal (third place) in the 100 butterfly with a time of 52.54 seconds. Timmy Vick placed fifth in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:03.26.
Cole, Darden, Victor Prezbindowski and Christian Martens combined for a 15th-place effort in the 200 medley relay. The foursome finished in 1:52.07.
Southern Wayne senior Chad Davis recorded top-13 performances in the 100 free and 200 free events during the NCHSAA 3-A championship meet at the Pullen Aquatic Center.
Charles B. Aycock's Savannah Sauls, Kylie Robertson and Sam Chastain also competed in the day-long event.
