SEVEN SPRINGS -- Goldsboro got exactly what it wanted out of a makeup game against Carolina 1-A Conference foe Spring Creek on Monday night.

The Cougars got their collective blood flowing, built a big lead and then rested their starters in an 86-35 victory over the Gators.

"We wanted to use our size and get some good looks at the basket early," Goldsboro head coach Russell Stephens said. "We were able to get the ball down low and we jumped ahead early which served us well in the game."

Goldsboro opened the game on a 13-0 run and forced Spring Creek head coach Taylor Jones to call a pair of timeouts.

The Cougars led 37-21 at halftime and used a 15-2 run midway through the third quarter to put the game away.

"Honestly, I am pretty proud of my guys," Jones said. "Games like this can cause teams to come apart. I thought our guys played together despite the scoreboard and they never got down on each other."

Goldsboro found plenty of time for its reserves in the final period.

Damarian Henderson led the Cougars with 15 points. Myron Carmon added 13 points and Rasheed Jackson tallied 12 markers.

"We are in a position where every conference game matters," Stephens said. "Tonight we got a win and we need to carry that momentum into tomorrow's game."

Tre Hammonds led Spring Creek with seven points.

The Gators (4-12 overall, 1-5 CC) play host to Ayden-Grifton tonight, while Goldsboro (13-6, 6-0) is the guest of Rosewood in a pivotal league game.
