Defending N.C. Independent Schools Athletic Association Class 1-A state champion Trinity Christian of Fayetteville turned back Wayne Country Day 48-25 in non-conference play on Wednesday evening.

De'aira Smith paced the Conquerors with 20 points and Chrishelle Smith supplied 16 points and 18 rebounds.

Sarah Best led the Chargers with 13 points.

"They're the defending state champs for a reason," Wayne Country Day head coach Eric Perry said. "We knew this was going to be a tough game, but it is a team that we always enjoy playing because it gets us better. I was proud of our girls because they competed tonight. If they keep competing like that I'll be proud of them."

The Chargers (4-10 overall) entertain Epiphany on Saturday.
