Golden Falcons sweep dual

* BAILEY -- Matt Teachey's pin at heavyweight switched the momentum in Charles B. Aycock's favor and led to a 40-30, non-conference triumph over perennial Class 3-A power Southern Nash on Wednesday evening.

Zack Howard's 10-1 major decision over Marquan Pettaway helped the Golden Falcons dominate Eastern Plains 2-A member Tarboro, 63-18.

Two-time state qualifier Khaleil Owens remained unbeaten in nine outings this season. Teammates Howard, Jacob Dickenson, Jordan Bailey, Daniel Romo, Charlie Mills, Broc Doyle and heavyweight Jorge Flores each went 2-0 in the tri-meet contested in the Firebirds' gymnasium.

"It was a real battle with Southern Nash and coming out victorious will give this team some real momentum going into our big conference match with Cleveland next week," CBA head coach Marc Peck said.

The teams meet Tuesday at Cleveland.

Before then, however, the Golden Falcons (8-1 overall) get one last tune-up Saturday in the Eagle Invitational at Rosewood.

Rosewood rallies twice

* PRINCETON -- Chris Gladson ignited a pair of late-match rallies as Rosewood prevailed against long-time nemesis North Johnston and Princeton on Tuesday evening.

Gladson (106 pounds) pinned North Johnston's Allen Creech early in the third period, which led to a 48-36 win. Against Princeton, Gladson drew a forfeit and 113-pounder Matt Cruz followed with a nine-second pin of Martin Bayles to spark a come-from-behind, 46-36 win.

Nick Lowery (138), Evan Reiss (152), Kaleb Smith (170), Syhieem Peterson (182), heavyweight Kaleb Taylor, Cruz and Angel Jaramillo (120) each emerged victorious against North Johnston.

Jordan Batson (145), Josh Drew (160), Smith, Chad Keefer (182), Jaramillo and Samuel Drew (132) each earned an individual win against Princeton.

The Dogs were led by Holden Holt (138), Cody Parrish (152), Drake Carter (195), Bradley Brown (220), heavyweight Matt Peedin and Alan Fader (126).

Rosewood (6-4 overall) plays host to its Eagle Invitational, the county's longest-running individual tournament, on Saturday. First-round matches are slated for an approximate 9 a.m. start.

Warriors fall to Mariners

* BEAUFORT -- Eastern Wayne collected five individual victories during a 45-24, non-conference loss to East Carteret on Tuesday evening.

The Warriors (3-3 overall) received wins from heavyweight Bryan Wooten, 120-pounder Brice Heller, Craig Smith (145 pounds), Quadrick Williams (160) and Rashaun Pridgen (195).

Heller pinned his opponent. Smith and Williams each claimed a decision. Wooten and Pridgen each drew a forfeit.

Eastern Wayne returns to action Saturday in the Eagle Invitational at Rosewood.
