Mount Olive, Cary get extension to co-host NCAA Division II CWS

MOUNT OLIVE -- The NCAA has announced that Mount Olive College and the Town of Cary will co-host the NCAA Division II College World Series in 2014 and 2015.

The two-year extension will mark seven consecutive years that the Division II national champion will get crowned at the USA Baseball National Training Complex in Cary.

"The USA Baseball National Training Complex is just a tremendous facility for us to showcase our championship," Division II Baseball Committee Chair Jim Givens said in a statement from the NCAA. "The people of Cary and Mount Olive have really embraced this event and allow us to have a wonderful experience for our student-athletes, coaches and fans."

The Trojans' last CWS appearance was in 2011 when they tied for third place after falling to eventual champion West Florida.

"It has been a great opportunity for the college to serve as the host institution for the NCAA DII baseball championship, so we are pleased to receive a two-year extension as host," said Mount Olive College athletics director Jeff Eisen. "We also appreciate this expression of confidence from the NCAA for the Town of Cary have done as the hosts for the last four years."

During its four-year run in Cary, four first-time CWS champions have been crowned -- Lynn (Fla.) University in 2009, Southern Indiana in 2010, West Florida in 2011 and West Chester (Pa.) University in 2012.

The inaugural Division II national tournament took place in Springfield, Mo., in 1968. The towns of Riverside (Calif.), Springfield (Ill.) and Sauget (Ill.) each hosted the series for at least one year. Montgomery (Ala.) served as tournament host for 23 consecutive years from 1985-2007.
