WINSTON-SALEM -- The Mount Olive College men's and women's indoor track and field teams combined to break four school records during the College Kickoff Classic on Saturday.

The record-setting efforts were among 14 personal-best marks set by Trojan competitors.

Sebastian Jackson broke teammate Joey Murphy's record in the weight throw, posting a mark of 13.28 meters. On the track, freshmen Joaquim Cotano-Lezcano and Stedmond Hampton made their way into the record books in the 500 and 300 meters, respectively. In the 500, Cotano-Lezcano posted a time of 1:09.35. In the 300, Hampton finished in 42.70 seconds.

Freshman Jaynell Brown made the most of her first collegiate competition with a throw of 11.89 in the women's shot put, topping the previous mark by Denise Harrison a year ago.

Setting personal bests Saturday in the track events were Lamonte Taylor (7.16 seconds) and Eric Jones (7.55) in the 60 meters. Taylor's time was just four-hundredths of a second off the school record held by Decardo Cole. In the distance events, Dave Wilson set a personal best in the 500 meters with a time of 1:12.05. Chris Menjares (9:30.87) and Sebastian Diebel (9:57.93) topped previous marks in the 3,000 meters.

In the field events, Cameron Braswell recorded a personal best in the weight throw at 12.11 meters. Donavann Thornton delivered a mark of 10.58 in the shot put.

Charity Grimes (9.64 meters) and Brown set standards in the weight throw in women's action. Kanesha Jones (4.91 meters) and Kiera Murray set personal marks in the long jump. On the track, Emily Shaw set a personal best in the 3,000 meters in 11:20.61.

MOC returns to the track Jan. 20, 2013, at the Winston-Salem State Open.
