Preps digest: JV, middle school sports

JV sports
* Boys' basketball: Lakewood 62, Southern Wayne 55 -- Montrell Plummer led the Saints' offense with 19 points. Xavier Pearsall and Marquail Broddick contributed 16 and 11 points, respectively. The Saints (1-2 overall) visit Jones Senior today.
* Boys' basketball: Goldsboro Heat 53, Wayne Country Day 52 -- Corey Carpenter emerged the Chargers' top scorer with 17 points in the loss. Teammates Tony Townsend and Preston Edwards supplied 16 and 14 points, respectively. WCDS (1-1 overall) entertains Wayne Christian today.
Middle schools
* Girls' basketball: Wayne Christian 51, Neuse Charter 26 -- Kasey Norris pumped in 17 points for the Eagles, while teammate Ally Willman scored 14. Wayne Christian remained unbeaten in three outings this season.
* Girls' basketball: Norwayne 42, Greenwood 6 -- Tanika Powell collected a game-high 16 points for the Cobras, who improved to 2-0 this season. Allison Shingleton and Mckenzie Wheeler contributed eight and six points, respectively. Norwayne entertains Grantham on Monday.
* Girls' basketball: Goldsboro Ice 24, Wayne Country Day 10 -- Lillian Freeman led WCDS with 10 points. The Chargers (0-2 overall) play host to Wayne Christian today.
* Boys' basketball: Wayne Country Day 22, Goldsboro Heat 21 -- Mitch Turnage paced WCDS' offense with 10 points. The Chargers (1-1 overall) entertain Wayne Christian today.
