Preps digest: Middle schools, NRYFL

Middle schools
* Voleyball: Norwayne d. Rosewood, 26-24, 25-22, 25-21 -- Norwayne finished the season undefeated at 14-0 overall with a three-set win over Rosewood on Wednesday afternoon. Becka Lynn Pittard led Rosewood with 10 kills. The Eagles concluded the year 12-2.
* Football: Norwayne 32, Greenwood 6 -- Caleb Gough led the Conras with two rushing touchdowns. Tim Farmer added one score on the ground and Damien Darden hauled in a touchdown pass from Jake Flowers, who completed 6 of 8 passes. Darden, Elijah Bryant and Noah Pilkington each tallied one sack on defense in the win. Other defensive standouts were Farmer and Chandler Matthews. Norwayne (7-1 overall) claimed the Wayne County Middle School Athletic Conference Division I championship with a 4-0 worksheet, and shared the overall county title with Dillard and Grantham.

Neuse River Football League
12-Under
* Charles B. Aycock d. Grantham -- Luke Frederick rushed for 219 yards and four touchdowns for the Little Falcons, who clinched a spot opposite Mount Olive in the Neuse River Youth Football League Division I championship game. Jordan Williams rushed for a TD and caught a conversion pass. Carson Smitherman added a rushing touchdown. Kaleb Moore collected two conversion passes. Tyler Parrish paced the Aycock defense with 13 solo tackles. Jordan Gay had nine tackles, while Colton Pitchford recorded four stops. The Little Falcons (6-1 overall) face the unbeaten Hurricanes on Nov. 10.
