Charles B. Aycock's playoff hopes got a big boost on Friday night.

Eastern Wayne's playoff chances took a huge hit at the same time.

The Golden Falcons scored on their first two possessions of the game and never trailed in a 38-12 victory at Little Big Horn in Eastern Carolina 3-A Conference play.

"I thought we did a lot of good things tonight," C.B. Aycock head coach Randy Pinkowski said. "We basically put ourselves in a position where we control our own playoff destiny now."

The game got off to a near-perfect start for the Golden Falcons as they received the opening kickoff and marched down the field in four plays. Neil Clark capped the drive with a 31-yard touchdown run.

Following an Eastern Wayne turnover, C.B. Aycock got the ball back and put together on another short scoring drive. Austin Snowden hit Clark with a screen pass and watched as Clark raced 78 yards to the end zone to make the score 12-0.

"We could not stop (C.B. Aycock) all night," Eastern Wayne head coach Bubba Williams said. "The read option game gave us problems, and they hit a few pass plays that went for big yards."

Eastern Wayne got on the scoreboard on the next possession when Dayshawn Pridgen broke a 44-yard run. The joy of the score did not last long, however.

C.B. Aycock pulled ahead 18-6 in the final minute of the first quarter when Snowden hit A.J. Mundle with a touchdown pass.

The Golden Falcon made the score 24-6 when Snowden broke free for a 27-yard touchdown run in the second quarter. Clark put the game away with a 14-yard touchdown run in the third quarter.

"Offensively, it has always been a kind of smoke and mirrors game," Pinkowski said. "We aren't big enough up front to push people around so we have to zone block and make good reads."

Pridgen hauled in a 13-yard pass from Mitch Pike to cap Eastern Wayne's scoring late in the third quarter. C.B. Aycock tailback Jeremy Hooks raced to pay dirt from 38 yards out in the fourth quarter to complete the 38-12 total.

The Golden Falcons (4-5 overall, 2-3 ECC) finished the night with nearly 500 yards of total offense. Snowden led the team with 133 yards on the ground and a touchdown. He added 145 yards passing and two more touchdowns.

Pridgen paced Eastern Wayne with 108 yards on the ground and 24 yards receiving. Pike finished with 79 yards passing on 11 completions.

"We were able to move the ball at times, but we weren't able to turn that into points," Williams said. "We simply did not make enough plays to win the game."

Eastern Wayne (3-5, 1-3 ECC) travels to Triton next week. C.B. Aycock is off next Friday and concludes regular-season play Oct. 26 at Southern Wayne.
