Wayne Country Day nets non-league road win

WILMINGTON -- Wayne Country Day swept the singles and doubles, and handed Coastal Christian a 9-0, non-conference loss Friday afternoon.
Gianna Democko, Sarah Best, Mollie Catherine McDonald, Meredith Roethling, Abbey Pope and Margaux Pope each posted a straight-set singles victory. McDonald, the No. 3 seed, clinched her match by winning a second-set tiebreaker.
Democko-M. Pope, Best-A. Pope and Roethling-Anna Allen completed the sweep in doubles.
The Chargers (7-1 overall) travel to Coastal Plains Independent 1-A archrival Greenfield on Tuesday.
