Trojan soccer teams have rough day

MOUNT OLIVE -- The Mount Olive College men's and women's soccer teams endured a pair of tough non-conference outings Wednesday evening.

Cody Farrior collected the "golden goal" 32 seconds into the first overtime and Peach Belt Conference member Francis Marion (S.C.) University handed the Trojan men a 2-1 defeat.

The Trojan women attempted 18 shots, but settled for a 0-0 draw against in-state opponent St. Andrews University.

Scoreless for 77 minutes, MOC and FMU erupted for a pair of goals in the final 13 minutes of regulation. Tyler Vandevender put the Trojans ahead 1-0 on Emmanuel Wennah's assist in the 77th minute.

One minute later, the Patriots tallied the equalizer -- a penalty kick -- to force OT.

Majera's chip pass to Farrior in the early stages of the extra session sent Mount Olive to its third loss of the season.

Freshman goalie Carolin Edenhofner recorded two of her four saves in the second overtime and earned her first collegiate shutout.

MOC took four shots in the 30-minute overtime sessions, but keeper Brittany Roberts (12 saves) preserved the 0-0 deadlock for St. Andrews.

The Trojan men entertain Northwood (Fla.) today at 7 p.m. at Amon Field and conclude their season-opening, five-game homestand Saturday against Conference Carolinas foe King (Tenn.) College. Kickoff is 4 p.m.

The Trojan women entertain King on Saturday at 7 p.m.
