Wayne Country Day turns back Oakwood

GREENVILLE -- Wayne Country Day claimed a rain-shortened, 5-1 victory over Coastal Plains Independent 1-A rival Oakwood on Thursday afternoon.
Gianna Democko, Sarah Best, Meredith Roethling, Abbey Pope and Margaux Pope each picked up a singles point. Roething prevailed in a third-set tiebreaker at No. 4 singles.
The teams started two doubles matches, but were called off due to rain.
Wayne Country Day (2-0 overall) plays host to county rival Wayne Christian (2-0) today at Wayne Community College. First serve is 4 p.m.
