Goldsboro Municipal Golf Club is playing host to the sixth annual Patriot Golf Day during the Labor Day weekend, which begins Friday and ends Monday.

Officials from GMGC will collect donations for the Folds of Honor Foundation, a non-profit organization that provides educational scholarships to the families of service men and women who have been either disabled or killed in service to their country.

Golfers are encouraged to donate at least $1 for each round of golf played during the four-day weekend. Non-golfers can also participate by making a donation to the foundation at its website at FoldsofHonor.org.

"Patriot Golf Day is an excellent way to pay tribute to those who have sacrificed for our country," said Jody F. Dean, PGA. "We are proud to celebrate and support these men and women and their families through the Folds of Honor Foundation."

Since its inception in 2007, more than $12.8 million has been raised through Patriot Golf Day events, allowing Folds of Honor to award more than 3,500 educational scholarships. President George W. Bush, 43rd President of the United States of America, serves as the Honorary Chairman of Patriot Golf Day.

There are more than one million dependents of fallen and wounded military service men and women from the Iraq and Afghanistan conflicts alone; and 87 percent do not qualify for federal education assistance (as of Jan. 1, 2012).

Patriot Golf Day allows the Folds of Honor Foundation to present an ongoing tribute to our brave service members by ensuring that the families of fallen and wounded warriors have hope for the right educational start to life and best future possible.
