Wayne County drops Edenton in playoff opener

Three Wayne County pitchers combined to tally 17 strikeouts as Post 11 dropped Edenton 5-2 in Area I East playoff action on Saturday night.
Zack Mozingo got the mound win with 11 strikeouts. Bryant Stafford earned the save. Stafford lasted 22⁄3 innings in relief and did not allow a hit.
Wayne County took the lead with two runs in fourth inning. Tyler Gainey drove in the go-ahead run wiht a single to make the score 2-1. Wayne County added single runs in the sixth eight an ninth innings.
Wayne County improved to 14-6 overall.
Game two of the best-of-three playoff series is scheduled for today at 5 p.m. at Southern Wayne High School.
